Parkinson’s walking football festival 2026

When you picture the 6th June in your mind you tend to think warmer weather, sun...maybe a little cloud? Not 6th June 2026 and the morning of the Parkinson’s Walking Football Festival hosted at Portishead FC. Torrential rain, high wind and a chilly temperature of 18 degrees did not stop the players playing an outstanding morning of football in what can only be described as terrible conditions!
Posset Parkies (Portishead Town FC), Taunton Trailblazers, Abbeymead Rovers Pirates, Bristol City Robins, Dorset Parky Striders, Parkinson’s Pioneers Women’s Walking FC, Parky Pals (Cirencester) and Swindon Shakers turned out female, male and mixed teams to play 5 games in 4 groups. Taunton Trailblazers and Dorset Parky Striders battled it out in the final with a 1-0 win to the Striders. Congratulations Striders and to all the players and organisers!
Joe Gregory, playing for Taunton Trailblazers, said of the event: "A truly fantastic day.. twelve great teams, with many, many magnificent supporters that braved the worst of weather and enjoyed such a good time...I'm very pleased to have got through to the final with the fantastic Taunton Trailblazers team, and it was such a great achievement to have come runners up to the great Dorset Parky Striders Walking Football Club. An absolute pleasure and honour to have participated in such a great event with so many truly great people.. none of us would choose to have Parkinson's, though we wouldn't have the same pleasure and experiences like this if we'd not been diagnosed. It truly was a really special day thank you everyone involved in playing, organising, coaching, supporting, cheering."
