Penultimate game day for the Active Connextions Summer League in Middlesbrough

WF4W enjoyed a roadtrip to sunny Teesside to watch teams across the North of England compete in the Middlesbrough Summer League set up by ex-professional Janette Hynes. Alongside funding from Sport England and support from the WFA, the much needed league, brings players together from the North East, Yorkshire and Cumbria. For some, the trip is a two hour car ride from home to venue but offers an opportunity to compete with other female walking football teams.

A maximum of three-touches is allowed with players commenting on how this makes them think more about their passing. One player said she thought it made the game more inclusive. The three touch rule means that one player can't dominate and more teammates are brought into the game.

The matches were played in good spirit and there was an obvious camaraderie, as well as friendly competition, between the teams. On this day, four teams were competing - Stokesley, Carlisle, Workington St Joseph and Honeyball Utd.

Well done to Janette, the referees, coaches and the players for such an enjoyable day out for me and many others!
